Gempa bumi paling teruk melanda Jepun

TOKYO: Gempa bumi pada kadar 8.9 magnitud melanda Jepun awal petang tadi mengakibatkan tsunami hingga setinggi 10 meter melanda beberapa bandar kawasan pantai negara itu.

Kejadian itu mengakibatkan banyak kes kecederaan, namun jumlah kes kematian masih belum diperolehi dari kawasan yang dilanda bencana di pulau Honshu.

Ombak setinggi 10 meter dilaporkan melanda Sendai di timur laut Miyagi, pulau Honshu mengakibatkan banyak kapal, kereta dan sisa runtuhan dihanyutkan ke kawasan bandar. Gempa bumi itu mengakibatkan gegaran kuat bangunan di Tokyo yang dihuni 30 juta penduduk.

Sekurang-kurangnya enam kes kebakaran dilaporkan di Tokyo akibat gempa selain menyebabkan sistem subway dihentikan, siren kecemasan dibunyikan dan orang ramai berpusu-pusu keluar dari bangunan.

Kepulan asap dikesan membabitkan sekurang-kurangnya 10 lokasi di bandar raya itu di mana lebih empat juta kediaman terputus bekalan elektrik selain beberapa kawasan ditenggelami air termasuk kawasan letak kereta Disneyland Tokyo.

Gempa bumi berlaku pada jam 2.46 petang (0546 GMT) selama dua minit dengan gempa pertama kira-kira 400 kilometer di timur laut Tokyo, menurut US Geological Survey.
Ia diikuti beberapa gempa susulan antaranya sekuat 7.1 magnitud.

Perdana Menteri, Naoto Kan memanggil sidang Kabinetnya sejurus dilanda gempa dan kerajaan Jepun menghantar kapal tentera lautnya dari Tokyo ke kawasan yang paling teruk di timur laut Miyagi.

Jepun terletak di atas Lingkaran Api Pasifik dan turut mempunyai titik gunung berapi di mana Tokyo terletak di antara kawasan paling berbahaya.

Amaran tsunami turut dikeluarkan kepada Taiwan, Russia dan Kepulauan Mariana, kata Pusat Amaran Tsunami Pasifik. - Agensi

Kebakaran Tom Yam di Kg.Baru

Satu kebakaran berlaku di sebuah Tom Yam dekat Jalan Raja Alang, Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur. Tragedi berlaku pada Hari Raya pertama Aidil Fitri 10 September 2010 sekitar jam 3.30 petang. Rumah-rumah berhampiran restoran tersebut turut terkena tempias kebakaran.

New Zealand digoncang gempabumi 7.4 skala Richter

WELLINGTON 4 Sept. - Satu gempa bumi dengan kekuatan 7.4 pada skala Richter mengoncang New Zealand, 30km di barat Christchurch awal pagi ini.
Laporan awal menyebut tiada kemalangan jiwa dilaporkan tetapi kerosakan dikatakan banyak berlaku.

Gempa yang berlaku di kedalaman 33km dirasai seluruh Pulau Selatan dan di beberapa bahagian selatan Pulau Utara tetapi tidak berlaku tsunami.

Pihak polis di Christchurch, iaitu bandar kedua terbesar di New Zealand dengan penduduk kira-kira 342,000 berkata, banyak laporan mengenai cermin pecah, barang-barang jatuh serta bekalan elektrik dan air terputus diterima. - Reuters

Gempa bumi: Gegaran terasa di Kapar, Selangor

Baru bangun dari tidur untuk solat subuh tiba tiba rasa macam pening dan rasa bergoyang yang amat kuat. Aku pandang keatas (ceiling) dan lihat lampu serta kipas bergoyang. Aku rasa pasti ada gempabumi yang kuat di Sumatra, Indonesia, atau kalau tidak pun dalam kawasan Asia Tenggara.

Gegaran yang aku rasa ini adalah lebih kuat dari yang tempias masa gempa yang melibatkan tsunami di Aceh tahun 2004. Aku rasakan tadi ada 2 gegaran selang 2 atau 3 saat.

Gempa 7.2 Skala Richter di Aceh

TEMPO Interaktif, Banda Aceh -Gempa bumi berkekuatan 7,2 pada skala Richter (SR) yang mengguncang wilayah Provinsi Nanggroe Aceh Darusalam membikin was-was warga setempat. Gempa itu terjadi Rabu sekitar pukul 05.15 WIB dan goncangannya dirasakan hingga di Riau.

Menurut laporan BMKG, pusat gempa berada di 2,30 derajat Lintang Utara dan 96,87 derajat Bujur Timur dengan pusat gempa sekitar 60 km tenggara Sinabang, Aceh, pada kedalaman 24 km.

Sejauh ini belum ada laporan lebih jauh mengenai gempa itu dan dampaknya terhadap penduduk serta daerah sekitar gempa. Salah satu wilayah yang berdekatan dengan Aceh, yaitu Riau, tepatnya daerah pesisir Riau di Kota Dumai, Kabupaten Bengkalis dan Rokan Hilir, juga merasakan getaran gempa yang terjadi di Aceh itu.

"Saat sedang shalat tadi, terasa rumah bergoyang. Tidak hanya saya yang merasakan karena kami langsung keluar rumah, tetangga banyak yang keluar rumah," ungkap Anita seoramg warga Bagan Siapi-api, Rokan Hilir.

Ia mengatakan, goyangan gempa itu terjadi beberapa saat dan mengagetkan warga, bahkan membuat badan manusia sempoyongan dan beberapa peralatan rumah tangga ikut bergetar meski tidak ada yang jatuh dari meja.

Magnitude 7.2 earthquake hits Mexico

A strong earthquake south of the U.S.-Mexico border Sunday shook high-rises in downtown Los Angeles and San Diego and was felt across Southern California and Arizona, but there were no immediate reports of major damage.

The quake occurred at 3.40pm Pacific time (10.40pm GMT) 16 miles south southwest of Guadalupe Victoria, at a depth of 20 miles according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The area had been hit by magnitude 3.0 quakes all week.

The quake was felt as far north as Santa Barbara, USGS seismologist Susan Potter said.

Strong shaking was reported in the Coachella Valley and Riverside, California.

The earthquake rattled buildings on the west side of Los Angeles and in the San Fernando Valley, interrupting Easter dinners. Chandeliers swayed and wine jiggled in glasses.

In Los Angeles, the city fire department went on earthquake status and some stalled elevators were reported. No damage was reported in Los Angeles or San Diego.

In the Phoenix area, Jacqueline Land said her king-sized bed in her second-floor apartment felt like a boat gently swaying on the ocean.

'I thought to myself, that cant be an earthquake, I'm in Arizona,' the Northern California native said. 'And I thought, oh my God I feel like I'm nine years old.'

A police dispatcher in Yuma, Arizona. said the quake was very strong there, but no damage was reported. The Yuma County Sheriff's Office had gotten a few calls, mostly from alarm companies because of alarms going off.

Mike Wong, who works at a journalism school in downtown Phoenix, said he was in his second-floor office getting some work done Sunday afternoon when he heard sounds and felt the building start to sway.

'I heard some cracking sounds, like Rice Crispies,' he said. 'I didn't think much of it, but I kept hearing it, and then I started feeling a shake. I thought, 'You know what? I think that might be an earthquake.'

Wong said the swaying lasted for 'just a few seconds,' and he didn't notice any damage.-www.dailymail.co.uk
