The Longest & shortest city name in the world

The Guiness Book of Records says Bangkok has the longest place name in the world, with about 190 letters, depending on the transliteration:

Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit

The second longest city name in the world is in New Zealand

-Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaung
ahoronuku
pokaiwhenuakitanatahu (85 letters)

The Mäori name of a hill in New Zealand, it translates "The place where Tamatea, the man with big knees, who slid, climbed, and swallowed mountains, known as land-eater, played on the flute to his loved one."

Third longest place name in Wales

-Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (58 letters)

A place in Gwynedd, Wales, famed for the length of its railroad tickets. It means "St. Mary's Church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool of the church of St. Tysilo near the Red Cave." The official name comprises the first 20 letters; the rest is thought to have been added by a local tailor as a hoax in the 19th century.

VERDICT.Well, what to make of these claims and counter-claims? To this impartial observer, who has visited the multisyllabic places only on the Internet, the result is:
* Third longest place name (bronze medal): WALES.
* Second longest (silver medal): NEW ZEALAND.
* Gold Award winner THAILAND.

The shortest city name in the world is in Norway with one letter (A)
